    3D print gears and parts

    in General Discussions

I had a chat with the maestro of repair and suggested that we as a community can look into using a 3D printer to create replacements for plastic parts that have broken. I don't want to speak for anyone, but there are community shops where parts can be printed cheaply. If you want to learn about the process, here is a video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icTOtB7x3VE

I've created some objects in CAD that were then printed and depending on how exact it has to be, the process can be quite good. If you are not experienced in CAD, you can sometimes download a common part from sites like grabcad - https://grabcad.com/ If people who are examining a broken device find that a plastic part needs replacing, perhaps it can be printed rather then shipped from another country.
